NAVTEQ Maps Chosen For Whistler Group’s New Line of PNDs
NAVTEQ has been selected by the Whistler Group, a manufacturer of radar detectors, to provide NAVTEQ map data of the United States and Canada for its new series of portable navigation devices
(PNDs), the WGPX-550, WGPX-635 and WGPX-650.
Each of Whistler’s PNDs features color touch screens that easily transition among three screen perspectives 2-D, 3-D and pan viewing, allowing for the optimal vantage point to be selected throughout the routing process. Turn-by-turn voice guided navigation accompanies visual cues to heighten the user experience. The Whistler WGPX-550 plays MP3 files and is capable of viewing jpegs; while the WGPX-635 and WGPX-650 feature anti-glare screens and speed alerts.
All WGPX units come pre-loaded with comprehensive NAVTEQ map data for the U.S. which includes a points of interest database with over 1.5 million listings such as restaurants, hotels, gas stations, banks and other high interest destinations. Whistler’s deluxe PND, the WGPX-650, includes a remote control and comes pre-loaded with NAVTEQ map and point of interest data for Canada as well as the U.S. A complimentary DVD of Canada is included for the WGPX-550 and WGPX-635 models.
NAVTEQ employs one of the industry’s most comprehensive development and quality control programs. A team of approximately 600 extensively trained geographic analysts drive the roadways to capture data and specific road attributes such as one-way streets and speed limits that help optimize WGPX routing capability.
“Whistler needed to secure the highest quality map content available for the WGPX series to be considered a true competitor,” commented Leslie Folsom, Vice President - Marketing & Operations, Whistler Group. “Whistler selected NAVTEQ due to its reputation as best-in-class map supplier. In addition to providing a superior map, NAVTEQ has a service organization in place that truly supported Whistler throughout our product build process.”
“It is exciting to see Whistler Group, a company recognized for manufacturing high-quality mobile electronics, expanding into the rapidly growing portable navigation space,” said Winston Guillory, Senior Vice President - Consumer & Business Sales, NAVTEQ. “NAVTEQ is pleased to have its map data featured in the WGPX line of PNDs.”
The WGPX line of products is available at retail outlets throughout the U.S., including CompUSA, Fry’s Electronics, J&R Music, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Walmart.com and Amazon.com.
